Following in the footsteps of the great Bernard Delfont, Billy Marsh and Lew Grade, it seems that at one time, Impresario Johnny Mans had star names appearing throughout the length and breadth of the UK in theatres nationwide, quite often giving many artistes the opportunity to work, even when things were slowing down on the Light Entertainment circuit.
Over the years Johnny has produced and promoted literally hundreds of concerts for performers such as Norman Wisdom, Frankie Vaughan, Max Bygraves, Larry Grayson, Danny La Rue, Anne Shelton, Des O’Connor, Bruce Forsyth, Buddy Greco, Warren Mitchell, The Bachelors, Cilla Black, Les Dawson, Ken Dodd, Nicholas Parsons, Little & Large, Frank Ifield, Chas & Dave, Joan Regan, Ronnie Corbett, Suzi Quatro, Matt Monro, Jeremy Spake, Vince Hill, Lenny Henry, Paul Daniels, Bob Monkhouse, Bert Weedon, Anthony Newley, Cannon & Ball, Hinge & Bracket….and countless others. He’s also given lesser known artistes a chance to support many of the showbiz headliners, many who went on to become ‘stars’ in their own right!
Whenever, or wherever people went on holiday in the UK there seemed to be a Johnny Mans Production playing at the local theatre in town. The country was alive with light entertainment and variety shows.
He also endeavoured to find them television slots on chat shows or game and quiz programmes. His enthusiasm to find them an opportunity to perform their craft was second to none.
Showbusiness is in his blood and his dedication to the industry is second to none.
Below are some of the many concerts Johnny Mans produced or promoted, and some of the stars who appeared in his productions.
