Charles Hanson – Charity Auctioneer, Presenter & Speaker

Charles Hanson is one of Britain’s most recognisable and charismatic auctioneers, celebrated for his infectious energy, sharp wit and genuine warmth on BBC favourites including Bargain Hunt, Flog It! and Antiques Road Trip. On stage, he brings the same mix of humour, expertise and engaging storytelling that has made him a staple of daytime television and a respected voice in the antiques world.

A natural showman with a deep well of knowledge, Charles is equally at home captivating an audience in a packed salesroom or inspiring guests at a black-tie dinner. His proudest professional achievement is founding Hanson's Auctioneers and Valuers in 2005, an independent auction house that has grown from a single saleroom in Derbyshire to a large network of locations across the UK.

Charles’ love for antiques began in childhood and led him to study the craft of valuation and auctioneering in earnest. After earning his surveying qualifications, he joined the prestigious Christie’s in London in 1999, working in the European Ceramics and Glass Department. This formative experience gave him hands-on access to rare and important objects, refining his eye and cementing his love for the stories behind them. Roles at other leading antique houses followed, before he struck out on his own to create a business that reflected his passion, values and vision for the trade.

Television soon came calling. In 2002, Charles became the youngest expert ever to appear on Bargain Hunt, launching a media career that would run alongside his thriving auction business. His TV work has included Flog It!, Antiques Road Trip, and a host of special charity editions — all delivered with his trademark enthusiasm and approachable style. In 2018, he expanded with Hansons London, and his gavel has since presided over countless high-profile sales, from a Qianlong period Chinese vase achieving £650,000 to the medals of Viscount Rowland Hill. His Historica department, founded in 2016, has also become a go-to source for coins, antiquities and military memorabilia.

As a keynote speaker, Charles draws on more than two decades in the industry, weaving together insights on antiques, history, entrepreneurship, and the art of the auction. Whether sharing tales of remarkable finds, offering practical business wisdom, or lifting the lid on life behind the camera, his talks are always rich in content and brimming with personality.
